Summary of the recent ADNLD inc. virtual Annual Meeting

Health directives due to Covid-19 prevented us from having an in person Annual Meeting, which was to be held at Mont-Tremblant on October 4, 2020. We had to re-invent ourselves and as a result, our Annual Meeting was held virtually. Approximately 20 members participated. The following points were approved and adopted at this meeting:

  • the minutes of the Annual Meeting held last year in Chambly;
  • the financial auditors for ADNLD inc. were named for 2020-2021: Anita Legault, Yvon Gauthier and Yolande Desmarais. We thank them for their participation on this committee;
  • the Administrative Council annual report for the year 2019-2020 was read, and it made note of the meetings held every six weeks, the publication of the two newsletters, the visit in June 2019 of an ADNLD delegation to Irvillac for the Roses in Brittany exhibition and the inauguration of the rose garden commemorating “Noël LeGoff“, as well as the work on rebuilding the new website;
  • if possible, the next Annual Meeting will be held in September 2021 in the country south of Montreal and will be followed by a corn feast and picnic;
  • the priorities for our Administrative Council for the year 2020-2021 include continued work on the new website, an increase in memberships and advertising, recruiting and welcoming younger members in order to increase our membership and counterbalance the aging memberships in order to ensure the survival of the Association;
  • the launching of the ADNLD digital archives;
  • given the few anglophone members, many members questioned the necessity of having the newsletters and the new website completely bilingual. The Administrative Council will review this point in the coming months;
  • the four members of the Administrative Council whose mandate finishes on March 31, 2020 have accepted to renew for two more years, but they raised their concerns regarding the absence of the changing of the guard again this year. They have indicated they will not serve beyond Spring 2022. The future of ADNLD is in danger.

The 2020 Annual Meeting was followed by a very informative presentation by
Dr. Maurice Dupras on genealogy and DNA (mostly on ANCESTRY’S rapid test).

2019

At our meeting in Chambly on October 6, 2019, we had the opportunity to discover or perhaps rediscover the talents of accordion player Mr. Ronald Martellino. This created a most welcoming atmosphere as the participants arrived. Our ancestors, Noël Legault dit Deslauriers (Yvon Gauthier) and Marie Besnard (Yolande Desmarais), donned their new clothes made by Marie for the fall weather and greeted everyone.

Forty enthusiastic members gathered at the Fourquet-Fourchette Restaurant for the 2019 Annual Meeting of our Association.  Following the meeting, we were proud to present the new Administrative Council which included José Legault (m.306), Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488), Pierre Legault (m.284), Robert Legault (m.010), Andrée Legault Viau (m.467), Sylvie L. Legault (m.557), Bernard Deslauriers (m.610), Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m.434), and André Côté (m.511). As usual, it is not the ideas or the projects that are lacking. But these cannot be realized without the involvement of our members. The invitation is sent out to all those who can lend a hand and join the team. The priorities for the coming year include the launching of the new website and organizing a cabane à sucre or perhaps a picnic. Who knows, maybe both?

We then had the pleasure of listening to Mr. Paul-Henri Hudon, President of the Historical Society for the Seigneurie of Chambly. He spoke to us about Chambly during the time of our ancestor Marie Besnard and the principal events that were happening in the region. He was particularly proud to share with us the recent discovery of Samuel de Champlain at the Seigneurie in Chambly at that time.

We must mention the meal served by the Fourquet-Fourchette Restaurant. All the dishes were delicious and the service convivial and in record time. It isn’t easy to serve a large group with a time constraint. Our compliments to the Chef and his kitchen and dining room staff.

The meeting concluded with a visit to Fort Chambly. In spite of the gloomy and windy weather, we were able to visit the installations of the Fort. Experienced guides assisted us in discovering the architectural evolution of this strategic site, from the first wooden fort that sheltered the soldiers of the Carignan-Salières Regiment in 1665 until the construction in stone that welcomed the English troops until the middle of the XIXth century. An exhibition helped us discover the aspects of the lives of the soldiers during the French colonial times.

It was a jam-packed day.

2016

Report on the 19th Annual Meeting on October 30, 2016

It was in the enchanting atmosphere of L’Île Saint-Bernard that we were reunited for the 19th Annual Meeting. Twenty-one participants, six descendants of Charles, five descendants of Jean-Baptiste, three of Louis-François and one of Pierre-Le-gredin enjoyed a most memorable day.

Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488) and Sylvie L. Legault (m.557) welcomed us and distributed the necessary documents for the meeting, as well as a gift from the City of Châteauguay.  Throughout the morning, we were able to look at past photo albums of ANDLD Inc. and all were invited to identify unknown participants in these photos.

With much enthusiasm, Mrs. Nathalie Simon, Mayoress of Châteauguay, welcomed us.  She gave us a brief historical overview on the acquisition in 2011 by the city of Châteauguay of the Île Saint-Bernard and the mandate the City gave itself concerning this site. We presented her with a ADNLD Inc. pin, along with a copy of our last newsletter. She then answered a few of our questions.

Louise Legault (m.563) and José Legault co-presided the annual meeting. In order to fill positions on the Executive Council, six positions had been posted and a seventh was added at the start of the meeting. We had only one person present himself as a candidate prior to the meeting, that of Pierre Legault (m.284). Several candidates were nominated during the meeting but none accepted. Mr. Pierre Legault (m.284) was therefore elected by acclamation, and we welcomed him to the Council. At this time, there remains six (6) positions to be filled.

After a short break, the new Executive Council was presented: Mrs. Louise Legault (m.563) and José Legault (m.306) will be co-Vice-Presidents, Mrs. Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488) will be Treasurer, Mr. Robert Legault (m.010), Mr. Pierre Legault (m.284) and Mrs. Sylvie L Legault (m.557) will serve as directors for the year 2016-2017. The positions of President and Secretary were not filled.

The meeting took place following agenda. There were very few questions regarding the presented reports, but there were discussions on various subjects. These topics included the progress of the remake of the website, the challenges of obtaining new memberships and retaining old ones, the challenges of FAFQ (The Federation of Family Associations of Quebec), etc.

At the end of the meeting, an invitation was extended to attend a conference followed by a walking  tour after the meal. There was much socializing with many laughs and friendship shared around an excellent buffet.

Marguerite d’Youville, personified by Martine Mercier of the Saint-Bernard Heritage awaited us upon our return. Titled “L’Île Saint-Bernard, a fertile island serving as a resource for Montreal”. The conference described the establishment of the colony which is celebrating its 375th anniversary this year. Marguerite d’Youville explained to us the relationship between the diverse establishments, strategically settled along the Saint-Lawrence and their importance for the affairs and the security of the colony. We also learned that the concessions on the Île Montreal (which became Pointe-Saint-Charles), Châteaugay, Île Saint-Bernard, Île Sainte-Hélène and Île Ronde all belonged to Charles Lemoyne of Iberville. It is possible to see Île Perrot all the way from Île Saint-Bernard.

Mother Marguerite d’Youville then told us how she came to possess the Ile in 1765 and for more than two centuries, this isle was the property of the Grey Nuns. After a short break, we left on our walk. Accompanied by Mother Marguerite d’Youville, we visited the mill, the reproduction of the Fatima grotto, the Grey Nun cemetery, the buildings alongside and the orchard. Even our history experts learned something on this walk. The talk was easy to understand and animated. Our questions were all answered and our curiosity satisfied.

It is with regret that we returned inside to end our day. We thanked Martine Mercier for her personification of Marguerite d’Youville and presented her with a pin of our Association.

It was a wonderful day filled with promises to get together again soon. The invitation to visit Île Saint-Bernard in any season is presented to you! It is worth the journey.

Report on the 18th Annual Meeting and Reunion 2015

In was in Mother Nature’s fairylike atmosphere that we met at the La Maison amérindienne (Native American house) in Mont-Saint-Hilaire on Saturday, October 17, 2015. A soft snow fell on the trees  already dressed in their autumn colors.

The Welcome Committee greeted us warmly. Pastries, coffee, tea and juice were served, and it was a pleasure to chat with people that we had not seen in a while. The Maison amérindienne was reserved for our group for the day, so we were able to enjoy the grounds in an atmosphere of peace and quiet.

We were then welcomed into the Museum Salon to the sounds of drums and a welcome chant by our guide. The Annual Meeting then began with twenty-four members and invited guests present. It was in an ambiance created by the soft light that we spent the morning. Two (2) of the four (4) positions of Directors were filled. Our new Executive Council was formed: Mrs. José Legault (m.306), Interim President, Mrs. Louise Legault (m.563) stays on as Vice President, Mrs. Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488) stays on as Treasurer and Mrs. Diane Deslauriers (m.575) as Secretary. Two new directors were elected, and they are Mr. Robert Legault (m.010) and Mrs. Carole Paquette (m.500). Mrs. Suzanne Hachez (m. 525), Mrs. Sylvie L. Legault (m.557), and Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m. 434) will continue to serve as Directors. This new Council is made up of ten members instead of twelve.

We then took a break to participate in a Purification Ceremony and on our return, an excellent meal in the aboriginal tradition was served. The meal was served by young servers who are registered in international studies. The meal was punctuated with animated and congenial conversation. There were three draws for a bottle of the wine Rosé d’époque 2014 from the Isle de Bacchus Winery located in the village of Saint-Pierre-de-l’Ile-d’Orléans. The wine was labelled “King’s Daughters” for the occasion. The winners were Réjeanne Desjardins, Ronald Martellino and Suzanne Hachez.

Mr. André Michel, founder of the Maison amérindienne and chef for the occasion then came out to greet us.

The participants were invited by our guide for a  tour of the Museum. The temporary exhibition in the museum was on the point blanket developed by the Hudson Bay Company. The conference covered the trading with the First Nations people in the days of remote outposts. We viewed the film “Sigon” on the Atikamek  maple tradition and viewed several artifacts.

Due to a time constraint, Huguette Legault (m.293) and Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m. 434) shared a brief report on their family history. Theirs is an inspiring story of genealogy and history and there may be a book in the making.

We then had a guided tour of the old village of Mont-Saint-Hilaire, organized by Patrimoine Hilairemontais. Interrupted by a torrential rain, the guide continued her talk on the history of the village center in the Saint-Hilaire Church, classified  a historical monument in 1963.  We then listened to Julien Beaulieu who described and explained the details of the construction and the decoration of this church, painted by Ozias Leduc. The murals painted by Leduc were classed as a “cultural asset” in 1976. This famous internationally known artist is originally from Saint-Hilaire where his family home still exists. In addition, the Casavant organ in the church, though electrified, is the oldest one still being used. Mr. Beaulieu was accompanied by Mrs. Antoinette Leroux, President of the patrimoine Hilairemontais and the two answered questions on the region. We presented them with our Association pin.

Once again, we saw the proof that the highways which are built to skirt villages and towns where businesses are located, are killing our villages and towns.

Many gathered in the local restaurant to end a most agreeable day.

We must say that our appetites for culture and patrimony were satisfied!

Return to Noël Legault’s Land

The 16th Annual Meeting and Reunion of the members of the Association of the descendants of Noël Legault dit Deslauriers was held in Pointe-Claire on Saturday, October 19, 2013. Fifteen years after the founding of our association, our members returned to the city that played a part in the life of our ancestor and where our association first began.

Administrative Council 2012-2013 of our Association

Our members had the pleasure of listening to a presentation by Mr. Claude Arseneault, President of the Pointe-Claire Société for the Sauvegarde du Patrimone (SSPPC) or Preservation of our Heritage. He then offered a guided tour of the village of Pointe-Claire to the group. His participation was greatly appreciated.

Meeting with Claude Arsenault on the “pointe claire”.

During his presentation, Mr. Arsenault shared with us a project with a goal of publishing a book on the history of Pointe-Claire that the SSPPC are preparing in order to mark the 300th anniversary of the founding of Pointe-Claire in 1713. The Society recently launched a fund-raising campaign on the Internet to raise the necessary funds for the realization of this project and Mr. Arsenault issued a standing invitation to the descendants of Noël Legault to participate in this campaign. He hopes that the Legaults will give the example by donating generously and encourage all the descendants of Pointe-Claire families of origin to follow suit.

To learn more about this project and contribute to the campaign, all you have to do is visit the site “Pointe-Claire 1713-2013” on the Indiegogo platform at the following address:

http:/www.indiegogo.com/projects/pointe-claire-1713-2013-2.

We will be contacting all our members by email in order to forward Mr. Arsenault’s invitation to respond. By participating in the SSPPC campaign, we can ensure that the stories of our Pointe-Claire ancestors will be told along with those of the Pilon, Charlebois, Brunet, Cardinal, Daoust, Mitchell families and others.

If you chose to contribute to this campaign, be sure to emphasize that you are doing so as a descendant of Legault or Deslauriers.

We thank you in advance for your generosity.

José Legault (President) and Louise Legault (Vice-President)

P.S. If you visit the “Pointe-Claire 1713-2013” website, you will notice that on the left of the screen there is a description of the project.  On the right of the screen there is a list of all the products that can be ordered when contributing to this campaign. Take the time to examine the choices before making a contribution to ensure that you will choose something to your liking. Once you have made your choice, all you have to do is click on “Contribute” and follow the instructions.

Report on the 15th Annual Reunion on October 13, 2012 at the Château Joliette Hotel in Joliette

By: Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m. 434)

On a beautiful Saturday, the descendants of Noël Legault dit Deslauriers assembled in Joliette to attend their 15th reunion. The surroundings were ideal with the trees covered in leaves of orange, yellow and red, creating a festive atmosphere to begin our 15th year of existence.

The 14th Annual ADNLD inc meeting was attended by 37 persons including the Administrative Council. Before the meeting, President Anita Legault (m.009) introduced Mrs. Nicoletti, municipal councillor of the Electoral District number 4, representing the mayor of Joliette, Mr. René Laurin.  She welcomed us all and made us aware of the cultural and touristic attractions of the city of Joliette as well as that of the Lanaudière region.  Mrs. Ginette Léveillé-Côté unveiled the festive logo for the 15th anniversary that would appear on stationery and the year’s newsletters. This logo was created by Mrs. Josianne Cloutier, a graphic designer and owner of Apéro Design, a young Quebec enterprise. We thank her for her role in the creation and monitoring of this project as well as that of a promotional item for the occasion, a strap which was presented to all the members present.

Mrs. Anita Legault (m.008) served as Chairperson of the meeting. After welcoming all the participants, both members and non-members, she presented the members serving on the Administrative Council and thanked them for their involvement throughout the year.

The meeting began at 11:05 AM and began with the reading and adoption of the Agenda. Mrs. Ginette Léveillée-Côté (m. 434) then read the minutes of the meeting held October 15, 2011.

Mrs. Anita Legault (m.008), President, read her President’s report. Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488), Treasurer, presented the financial report for the fiscal years ending March 31, 2011 and March 31, 2012 for adoption. Mrs. José Legault read the report for the committee responsible for nominations and these included André Côté (m.511), José Legault (m.306) and Nathalie Legault (m.547). This committee received two nominations in good standing before the October 3, 2012 deadline. These included Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488) and Suzanne Hachez (m.525). These persons were declared elected by acclamation for a mandate of two years, that of 2012 to 2014. Nathalie Legault (m.547) and Huguette Legault (m.293) did not present themselves for re-election, and we thank them for their involvement and work on the Administrative Council. In order to fill the four (4) vacant positions on the Administrative Council, two members were nominated from the floor, that of Mrs. Louise Legault (m.563) and Yolande Desmarais (m.287). Mrs. Monique Dubois Legault made a motion to close nominations, and it was seconded by Mr. Robert Legault (m.010). Carried. Mrs. Louise Legault of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue accepted and was elected for a mandate for 2 years as a Director, bringing the total of members on the Administrative council to 9 for the 2012-2013 term. Three positions remained vacant.

After a short break, the new executive was elected and presented. They include: President:  Anita Legault (m.008), Vice-President: Nancy Legault (m.558), Secretary: Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m.434), Treasurer: Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488). The five remaining persons will serve as Directors.

At approximately 12:15 PM the President adjourned the meeting and the participants moved to the dining room where an excellent buffet was served. The opportunity to chat and socialize was enjoyed by all.

After lunch, the new Administrative Council was presented, and it was announced that Pointe-Claire had been chosen as the site of the next reunion. The annual meeting ended at 13:25 PM.

At approximately 1:30 PM, Mrs. Yolande Desmarais (m.287) presented a slide show on Charles Deslauriers and his descendants. Charles was a descendant of Jean-Baptiste Legault, son of Noël Legault dit Deslauriers, born on September 13, 1702 in Lachine. He passed away on September 27, 1771 in Pierrefonds. Charles Legault dit Deslauriers and Léontine Lafond, his grandparents, had eleven children, the third child being Maria Deslauriers. Maria married Lorenzo Desmarais, and they had five children: Nicole, Serge, Luc, Yolande and Jean-Pierre.

At approximately 2:00 PM, Mrs. Nathalie Legault (m.547) spoke to us about software that is used for genealogy databases. The presentation was well-received by the participants.

In order to allow time for those wishing to take part in a cultural and touristic tour of Old Joliette, prepared by Mrs. Yolande Desmairais (m.287), draws were made for door prizes.

At 4:10 PM, President Anita Legault (m.008) adjourned the reunion and participants left on a minibus for a visit organized by mrs. Yolande Desmarais.

It was a beautiful day and we thank all who responded to our invitation.

Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488) presented the Treasurer’s Report as well as the financial reports for the fiscal years ending April 30, 2010 and 2011. They were adopted as read. In order the minimize the length of the meeting, the other reports were not read, but the President emphasized the importance of reading them carefully.

These included Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m.434), André Côté (m.511) and Anita Legault (m.008). After a short break, the new executive was elected and presented to the assembly: President, Anita Legault (m.0008), Vice President, Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m.434), Treasurer, Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488) and Secretary, Nancy Legault(m.558). The six other persons will service as Directors. André Legault (m.017) resigned in November 2011, so the council now has 10 members.

At approximately 12:15 PM, the participants were serviced an excellent lunch in the dining room. Huguette (m.293) went from table to table to sell tickets for the draws on the numerous gifts offered by “artist” members or non-members. The sale of these tickets raised more than $300. Thanks to all the artists and Huguette Legault (m. 292).

Nathalie Legault (m.547) presented us a slide show on the ancestors of the participants, using a color system (red, green, blue, orange, mauve, yellow, green and mauve). This facilitated exchanges between the participants. She presented some graphs showing the distribution of members of certain ancestors and this created much interest. Numerous questions followed.

José Legault (m.306) then presented a photo essay on her experience climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in September 2011. There were numerous questions throughout her presentation.

Nathalie Legault then showed the participants how to search for information on their family members. She also wished to demonstrate how navigating the TNG is user friendly, and she was able to provide everyone with a real time experience.

Those members wishing to purchase various promotional objects were given the opportunity to do so in a kiosk operated by Robert Legault (m.010) and we thank him for his dedication. A sum of $300 was realized.

At the end of the day, numerous door prizes donated by some Legault members were given to some of the participants.

Thanks to all the participants, and we will see you next year. The 2012 meeting will be held on October 13.

Before beginning the annual meeting, ADNLD President Hélène Legault Lauzon (m.103) presented the program coordinator from the Notre-Dame de Fatima Centre, Mrs. Marie-Josée Dufour and she welcomed the participants and explained the Centre’s mission and the reason for its being. The annual meeting began at approximately 11:00 AM and 56 participants were recorded. Each person received a folder of documents necessary for the meeting, all prepared by our secretary, Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m.434).

Hélène Legault-Lauzon (m.103) acted as presiding chairman. The meeting was brought to order after having welcomed those members and non-members present. She presented the members of the Administrative Council and thanked them for their involvement throughout the year. The agenda was read and adopted followed by the reading of the  minutes of the 2009 Annual Meeting by Ginette Léveillé-Côté, (m.434), Secretary.

Hélène Legault Lauzon (m.103) read her President’s report. Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488) presented the Treasurer’s Report, as well as the financial reports for the fiscal years ending April 30, 2009 and 2010. The reports were adopted as read. In order to keep the meeting relatively brief, the other reports were not read, but the President emphasized the need to read them carefully.

André Legault (m.017) read the Nominating Committee report. Three (3) candidates allowed their names to stand before the October 5, 2010 deadline. These included Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488), Huguette Legault (m.293) and Suzanne Hachez (m.525). These persons were declared elected for a mandate of 2 years, that of 2010 to 2012. Hélène Legault Lauzon (m.103), J.Yvon Lauzon (m.510) and Luc Legault (m.176) decided not to run again at this time, and they were thanked for their work on the Administrative Council throughout their terms. Anita Legault (m.008), Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m.434), André Legault (m.017), André Côté (m.511), José Legault (m.306) and Bertrand Legault (m.526) have their terms ending in 2011, so they will be a part of the Administrative council for 2010-2011 along with the three persons previously nominated for a total of 9 members.

In order to fill the three vacant positions, six members were nominated from the floor. These include Yvon Prud’homme (m.54), Karine McGarragher (m.553). Luc Legault (m.176), Carine Dubé (m.553) Nathalie Legault (m.547) and Céline Legault (m.545). Carine Dubé and Nathalie Legault accepted the nominations, and they were declared elected by acclamation for a mandate of 2 years as Directors. Therefore, 11 of the possible 12 positions were filled.

After a short break, the new executive was elected and presented to the Assembly. President: André Legault (m.017), Vice President: Anita Legault (m.008), Treasurer: Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488), and Secretary: Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m.434). The seven other persons will serve as directors since Carine Dubé resigned as a director.

At approximately 12:10 PM, the group was directed toward the dining room. The caterer served a delicious lunch during which Huguette (m.293) went from table to table to sell tickets on door prizes. There were numerous winners. During the meal, Mrs. Karine MacGarragher, granddaughter of Yves Legault (m.301) entertained the group with a few songs. Mrs. Lise Chartier, author, historian and founding president of the Société d’histoire and de généalogie of L’Ile-Perrot presented a slide show on her research on Ile-Perrot and the Legault dit Deslauriers inhabitants that have lived there.

Nine door prizes and eight gifts provided by the Legault artists were drawn and distributed. The sale of tickets for the works of art raised $355. Thank you to all the artists and Huguette Legault (m.293) who organized it all and collected the paintings and other crafts.

At approximately 16:30, approximately twenty persons took a guided tour of the Quinn Farm in a cart. Following this, Mrs. Lise Chartier welcomed approximately twenty persons to the Saint-Jeanne de Chantal Church for a historical visit with comments on the premises.

It was a full day enjoyed by many.

Annual Meeting held on October 24, 2009 in the Community Centre Sarto-Desnoyers in Dorval

By: Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m. 434)

On an autumn day that began cold and gray, the descendants of Noël Legault dit Deslauriers and Marie Besnard assembled in the city of Dorval at the Sarto-Desnoyers Community Centre for their 12th annual meeting.

The members were welcomed and registered and socialized while enjoying coffee and donuts. Some met for the first time, others found one another again, some shared memories or exchanged genealogy information, etc…

The annual meeting began at 10:30 AM with 42 participants registered. Everyone received an envelope containing all the documents pertaining to the meeting prepared by our secretary Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m.434). President Hélène Legault Lauzon (m.103) presented Mr. Edgar Rouleau, mayor of Dorval. He welcomed the participants to Dorval and spoke to them of this beautiful city that witnessed the lives of numerous Legault family members during its long existence. Our president presented him with our pin as well as a plaque with the ADNLD coat of arms.

The annual meeting then began with Hélène Legault-Lauzon (m.103) acting as President of the assembly. The meeting was brought to order with the reading and adoption of the agenda and the minutes of the 2008 annual meeting by Secretary Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m.434). Hélène (m. 103) read her President’s Report. Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488) presented her Treasurer’s report as well as the financial statements for the fiscal years ending on April 30, 2008 and 2009 for adoption. In order to keep the meeting a reasonable length, the members were given the choice of not having the other committee reports read, and this was unanimously accepted.

Huguette (m.293) read the Nominating Committee report. The committee received the names of 3 members in good standing before the October 4, 2011 deadline, and they were declared elected for a mandate of 2 years, that of 2009 to 2011. These included Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m.434), Michel Legault (m.484) and André Côté (m.511). Anita Legault (m.008) though absent, had shared her intentions to let her name stand, and she was declared elected. Hélène Legault (m.103), Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488), Huguette Legault (m.293), J.Yvon Lauzon (m.510) and Luc Legault (m.176) stay on as their mandate ends in 2010.

Three members were nominated from the floor. These included Suzanne Hachez (m.525), José Legault (m.306) and Bertrand Legault (m.526). They accepted the nominations and were declared elected, bringing the number of members on the Administrative Council to 12.

After a short break, the new executive was elected and presented to the assembly: President, Hélène Legault Lauzon (m.103), Vice-President, Anita Legault (m.008), Treasurer, Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488) and Secretary, Ginette Léveillé-Côté (m.434). The eight other persons will serve as Directors.

A question period then followed which permitted the clarification of certain points. Some suggestions were made for the next annual meeting.

At approximately 12:30 PM, the participants were directed towards the dining room. The servers from Les Allants served  a gourmet meal during which Huguette (m.293) went from table to table selling tickets on door prizes. The numerous prizes were won by many happy winners. Following the meal, lecturersJean-Pierre Raymond (ex-president of SHGD-the society of history and genealogy of Dorval) and François Legault (ex-president of FADOQ- the golden age of Quebec) gave an interesting report. They were thanked by Luc Legault (m.176) and Monique Dubois Legault (m.001) who presented both with a pin and plaque with the ADNLD coat of arms.

As the day drew to an end, at approximately 3:00 PM, Monique Dubois Legault (m.001) and Hélène Legault Lauzon (m.103) unveiled the tree honoring our ancestor, Noël Legault dit Deslauriers at the arboretum on the property. This was a moving ceremony and appreciated by all who assembled around the Norwegian maple that was chosen in the spring of 2009.

A lunch was served to celebrate the unveiling. Those present continued to discuss, fraternize and exchange genealogy information until their departure at approximately 4:30 Pm. A number of them attended a mass in honor of our ancestors, celebrated by Présentation-de-la-Saint-Vierge parish priest Father Alan Major of Dorval. Father Michel Legault, m.s.a. (m.181) co-celebrated.

The day ended with a group meeting in a restaurant to continue the celebration.

It was a most agreeable day.

2008

The absent president was to have presented her President’s report as well as the Treasurer, so the reports for the 2007-2008 fiscal years were not presented. It was decided that the reports would be sent to those members present by mail as well as being published in the next issue of our newsletter Se souvenir.

10th ADNLD inc reunion in Pointe-Claire, October 2007

MoniqueIn 2007 from October 12 to 14th, members of ADNLD gathered at the Quality Suites Hotel in Pointe-Claire at the invitation of the Administrative Council of the Association of the Descendants of Noël Legault dit Deslauriers. The planning committee made up of Robert (m.010), François (m.060) and Yvon Legault (m.473) had reserved a location and found resource persons.

François who had been looking forward to this reunion unfortunately passed away in the meantime in February 2007.

On Friday, October 12 we had the opportunity to admire the works of some members:  paintings, photos, crafts, and we had the opportunity to dabble in some genealogy research.  The evening ended with socializing while enjoying some “bel canto” by Mrs. Rachel Trépanier.

On Saturday morning, a group went to the Gérald-Godin cégep where Mr. Marc Locas gave a presentation on the building as well as the region of the Sainte-Geneviève shore where numerous Legault dit Deslauriers ancestors once lived.

We learned that on June 5, 1719, our ancestor Noël received a land concession on the Saint-Rémy shore from the Sulpicians, the Lords of the Ile of Montreal.

A visit to the Sainte-Geneviève parish cemetery and the crypt brought memories to many participants who had family that lived in this parish.

Historian Marcel Tessier captivated his audience during the afternoon, describing life in New France in the XVII th century. A surprise:  our ancestors Marie and Noël came to confirm Mr. Tessier’s stories.

We then assembled in the Saint-Joachim-de-Pointe-Claire church to pay homage to our Lord with our ancestors and on our return to the hotel, a banquet awaited us. An evening was spent dancing and socializing, and it was a most agreeable way to end the day.

On Sunday, October 14, the annual meeting was held and Mrs. Hélène Legault-Lauzon (m.103) agreed to preside.

The minutes of the 2006 meeting held in Cornwall were read and adopted.

The various committees presented their reports.

Mrs. Jeanne Backman from California presented some information on DNA tests that  complemented the information presented at previous meetings.

The election period was animated as few persons agreed to run for office. After some discussion, a few members finally accepted to return to Council.

Congratulations to our new President, Mrs. Lillian Deslaurier Companion (m.355).

We can look forward to celebrating the 10th anniversary of our association in 2008.

Please remember that your association is not the sole responsibility of a few members. The realization of diverse activities requires the participation of everyone.  Please don’t hesitate to get involved.

 “Meetings and Activities” Committee Report

The 9th annual meeting of the Association of descendants of Noël Legault dit Deslauriers was held on October 22, 2006 at the NAV Canada Centre de Formation et de Conférences in Cornwall, Ontario.

This location was proposed by our past President, Eugène Legault (m.007) who also assumed the role of chairman for the day’s activities.

Phil Poirier, the mayor of Cornwall, welcomed us and presented the history of the large presence of French Canadians in his city.

Denise Génier-Dawson (m.378) gave us a computer presentation on how to navigate the ADNLD internet site. She also gave us a report on two Deslauriers families. Using a game, Eugène (m.007) got us to learn more about our large Legault and Deslauriers families.

Ultimately, it was a wonderful reunion, even though attendance was less than expected and a few complaints about the price of the meal.

We hope that the participation in the next reunion will be more encouraging, given all the preparation these events require.

2005

Annual Meeting held Sunday, October 23, 2005 in Saint-Jean-de-Matha

In the universe of Louis-Cyr

2005_1It was a gloomy Sunday, October 23, 2005 that the 8 th Annual Meeting of the Legault dit Deslauriers Association was held in the beautiful region of Saint-Jean-de-Matha. The Legault and Deslauriers members from many regions of Quebec and Ontario received a warm welcome from the Administrative Council present.

The day began for a few with a mass int the village church. The folks took note of the pamphlet created for the occasion by our Treasurer Mrs. Lillian Delaurier-Companion (m.355). Others, approximately 30 of them, participated in guided tour of the Louis Cyr Museum. This museum recounts the life of one of the strongest men in the world. Our guide told us that a film on the life of Louis Cyr is presently in production.

We then proceeded to the Saint-Jean-de-Matha Golf to socialize and share in a delicious meal. A kiosk containing promotional items was laid out by our Tresurer Lillian (m.355) with the help of her husband. A table contained books, magazines, photos and several genealogy treasures. Luc (m.176) brought his computer to assist the folks with their ancestry. We all received a paper showing the ancestry of all those present and their link to our ancestor Noël .

Three ladies from the area had a table displaying local products.

After the meal, Mr. Hubert-Guy Legault (m. 324) entertained us with a game of questions on our ancestor.  Bravo Hubert-Guy (m. 324), for this most amusing game!

2005_2Our reunions dont’t tae place without door prizes. Our outgoing President Eugène Legault (m.007) provided several bottles of his won wine. Thanks to Gilbert Paradis and Raymonde Legault Im.037) for the numerous prizes. Their dedication and efforts helped the day roll out in a most agreeable fashion. Thank you Raymonde (m.037) and Gilbert. Your contribution was greatly appreciated.

We also wish to emphasize the dedication of Mr. Jacques-André Deslauriers (m.277) and his wife Liliane for their involvement in the picnic in Callelman as well as Raymonde Legault (m.037) and her husband Gilbert for this annual meeting. A clock bearing their name and the arms of the association was presented to them.

Mr. Michel Gadoury, a historian and municipal councilor, then resumed his talk on Louis Cyr. In 1985, he created the Historical Society of Saint-Jean-de-Matha and with incredible energy and enthusiasm he told us numerous amusing anecdotes on the characters of the region.

Following ths, the Annual Meeting began with the reading of the reports for each committee, followed by a question period. We the proceeded to the elections. The Administrative Council was formed: Mrs. Monique Dubois-Legault (m. 001) became President. Mr.. Jacques Legault (m. 050) became Vice-President. Mrs. Lillian Delaurier-Companion (m. 355) became Treasurer  and Mr. Hubert-Guy Legault (m. 324) became Secretary.  Directors included Mr. Luc Legault (m. 176), Mr. François Legault (m. 060), Mr. André Legault (m. 017), Mr. Robert Legault (m. 010), Mrs. Yolande Desmarais (m. 287) and Mr. Réjean Lachance (m. 458). In spite of our numerous recruiting efforts, two positions remained vacant and so the new Administrative Council will be made up of 10 members instead 12.

We underlined the departure of Mrs Hélène-Legault Lauzon (m. 103) and  Mr. Eugène Legault (m. 007), by presenting them with a souvenir plaque recognizing their involvement at the heart of the association.

Thank you Hélène (m.103) and Eugène (m.007). Your departure will create a void difficult to fill.

It is with regret thath the afternoon came to an end and we parted ways while reminding ourselves to attend the sugaring off party in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines in April of perhaps the picnic in Saint-Eustache in June or perhaps at NAV Canada in Cornwall on October 26, 2006.

Preparations are underway for the 10th reunion to be held in the Valleyfield region in 2007. We are presently looking for persons wishing to collaborate with us in the planning of this event.  Please contact a member of the Administrative Council.

Fifth official reunion of the Association in Pointe-Claire

2001

Fourth Official Meeting of the Association in Dorval

It is 9 o’clock and already the members of the Administrative Council were actively preparing the hall where the Legault/Deslauriers would gather for the fourth annual meeting.  Everything was in place to beautify the site.  Some panels were installed on which were attached documents, photos, etc. all relating to our large family, all starting with our ancestor Noël Legault from Irvillac, Bretagne, France.

Near the principal entrance could be found the tables where the members would register.  It was approximately 11:15 AM when the first Legault registered.  He was one of a hundred persons who had advised that they would be in attendance with the intention of participating in the brunch.

Mr. François Legault (m.060), Director, from Laval, was the master of ceremony and he welcomed everyone.  The members of the Administrative Council had decided to give tribute to one who had made his mark over the years and the nomination was effective immediately.  What better choice than one of his sons to present this person!  He was able to share with us what this wonderful man had accomplished over the eighty (80) years of his life, most particularly in genealogy.  Our glasses were raised in honor of Mr. François Legault (m.060) from Laval who was chosen as the person of the year at the heart of the Association of the descendants of Noël Legault dit Deslauriers.  He was surprised to receive a plaque which was presented to him by Mrs. Hélène Legault-Lauzon (m.103), Director, from Beaconsfield on behalf of all the members of the Administrative Council.

The aroma from the kitchen spread into the hall and it was now time to enjoy a wonderful meal.  Those will larger appetites were able to enjoy a second helping.  With full stomachs, we began the annual meeting.

It was approximately 1:40 PM and 35 new Legault/Deslauriers members joined the group to participate in the afternoon activities.

According to the bylaws, all organizations must hold an annual meeting.  Mr. André Legault (m.078) from Longueil, acted as president of the assembly.  The various reports, presented to the attendees upon their arrival, were read.  President Mrs. Monique Dubois-Legault (m.001) from Sainte-Martine, gave a detailed report on what had been accomplished this past year.

Mr. Peter Yeomans, Mayor of Dorval, welcomed the Legault/Deslauriers members that were present.  Mr. Michel Pasquin, President of the historical society of Dorval, held our attention with his presentation on the Legaults that were in certain areas where their homes were built and where some Legaults still live. A short break followed.  The group was reunited for a presentation on genealogical experiences by Mr. François Legault (m.060) where he shared his experiences.

A coffee break was most appreciated served with delicious pastries prepared by Lola wife of Mr. Eugène Legault’s (m.007), Director, from Cornwall, Ontario.

A workshop on genealogy illustrating how to trace one’s lineage up to our ancestor Noël followed.Under the capable leadership of Mr. Luc Legault (m.176) from Saint-Placide, newly elected to the Administrative Council, we learned how to effectively do our research.  This experience was most appreciated.

At 5:30 PM the day came to an end, one where the Legault/Deslauriers family members were able to socialize in a most enjoyable atmosphere.

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

2021

Annual Meeting Held on September 19, 2021

On a beautiful sunny Sunday, the annual meeting of the Association des Descendants de Noël Legault dit Deslauriers was held on September 19, 2021 in Saint-Eustache. Participants came from various regions of Quebec including Deux-Montagnes, Les Laurentides, Lanaudière, just to name a few.  The number of attendees was limited due to Covid health restrictions.

The day began with the registration of members, all pleased to be able to attend a meeting in person for the first time in two years. Mrs. Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488) and Mrs. Ginette Léveillé Côté (m.434) distributed a package that included the documents for the meeting as well as a ticket for a draw for door prizes.  Mrs. Sylvie Legault (m.557) and Mr. Robert Legault (m.010) welcomed the participants and served coffee and some fruit pastries. Participating members and non-members had a chance to socialize before the start of the annual meeting at 11:00 AM.

Following words of welcome from the Administrative Council (C.A.), Mrs. Leveillé-Côté (m.434) was chosen to preside over the meeting. She began with the introduction of the Administrative Council members present, followed by reports from the President, Mr. André Côté (m.511) and the retiring Treasurer, Mrs. Réjeanne Desjardins (m.488).  The reports were adopted as presented by the members.  Mrs. Suzanne Hachez (m.525) served as Secretary  and recorded the minutes of the meeting.

You can meet the members of the new C.A. 2021-2022 on the website by clicking on “Who are We?” and “Members of the Administrative Council”.  Our Administrative Council is made up of 7 administrators:  President, Vice-President, Secretary and 4 Administrators.  The position of TREASURER IS VACANT. Unfortunately, we did not receive any nominations for election in an attempt to fill all the vacant positions.

The projects for the coming year were identified:  recruitment, the drafting of succession procedures, the importance of attracting advertisers, the registration of the Legault dit Deslauriers Archival Funds, etc….

At approximately 12 noon, lunch was served to the participants, creating an opportunity to exchange ideas and encourage future contributors to the association’s genealogy database.  We thank them for offering their services to help the Administrative Council and we thank them for their contributions that ensure the survival of the association.

A last minute guest joined us at lunch. Mr. Marcel Fournier, historian and genealogist gave us a presentation accompanied by a slide show on Les soldats de la compagnie Franche de la marine (The Soldiers of the Franche de la marine Company).  The participants enjoyed its content and made new discoveries.

Following the presentation, the sale of promotional items was a success.  Draws for some beautiful door prizes were made (details in this newsletter).  The day ended at approximately 3:45 PM.
