10th ADNLD inc., Meeting in Pointe-Claire, October 2007

Translated from French to English by Paulette Legault.

MoniqueOn October 12, 13 and 14, 2007, members of ADNLD assembled at the Quality Suites Hotel in Pointe-Claire, at the invitation of the Administration Council of the Association of the Descendants of Noel Legault dit Deslauriers. For over a year, the organizing committee, made up of Robert (member 010), Francois (member 060) and Yvon Legault (member 473), began preparations by reserving the location and sending out invitations to resource persons.

Unfortunately François, our elder, passed away in February 2007 and was unable to see his dream realized.

On Friday October 12, we were able to admire the works of several members: paintings, photographs, crafts as well as the opportunity to do some genealogical research. The evening ended with friendly exchanges and a song by Mrs. Rachel Trépanier.

On Saturday morning, a group went to the Cegeps Gérald-Godin where Mr. Marc Locas gave a historical account of the region of Sainte-Genevieve where several of our ancestors once lived. We learned that on June 5, 1719, our ancestor Noël was granted some land at Saint-Remy from the Sulpiciens, lords of the Island of Montreal.

A visit to the parish cemetery and crypt in Sainte-Genevieve brought back memories for some whose families lived in this parish.

In the afternoon, historian Marcel Tessier captivated his audience by describing life in New France in the 17th century. A surprise: Our ancestors Marie and Noël stopped in to confirm Mr. Tessier’s stories.

A mass of thanksgiving in the Saint-Joachim-de-Pointe-Claire church followed. Once back at the hotel, a banquet was served. The day ended with a dance enjoyed by many.

On Sunday, October 14, the annual general meeting was held presided by Mrs. Hélene Legault-Lauzon (member 103). Minutes of the 2006 meeting held in Cornwall.were read and accepted. Various committees presented their reports.

Mrs. Jeanne Backman of California, spoke once again about DNA testing, bringing more information and detail forward.

An election followed. After some deliberation, some members accepted to sit once again as Directors on the Administrative Council.

Congratulations to our new president, Mrs. Lillian Delaurier Companion (member 355).

We will be celebrated the 10 year anniversary of our association in 2008.

Please don’t forget that our association is not the sole responsibility of but a few members. We need everyone’s participation in order to keep our association viable and growing. Please don’t hesitate to get involved.
