Annual gathering, Sunday, October 24th, 2004 in Vaudreuil-Dorion

Translated from French to English by Paulette Legault.

Sunday, October 24th, 2004, some of Marie and Noel Legault’s descendants converged on Vaudreuil-Dorion for their 7th annual gathering.

EgliseStMichelAttendees arrived from Quebec, Ontario and even 2 couples all the way from Saskatchewan. They attended mass at the St-Michel Church in Vaudreuil, where numerous of our ancestors would have also attended since this church has existed since 1773.

At this Eucharistic Celebration, our president, Mr. Eugene Legault (m. 007), placed our coat of arms at the altar. Father Normand Bergeron welcomed the group and a universal prayer was read.

Immediately following mass, a mention of the ancestors that have been buried under the church in the XIX century was made. Following this, the group proceeded to the Summerlea Golf Club.

2004_3We were fortunate to be able to experience this event in an enchanted décor thanks to Mrs. Nicole Gauthier (m. 316), head of our events committee. Mrs. Gauthier (m. 316) had also arranged numerous door prizes for the event.

At the reception, our secretary, Mrs. Helene Legault-Lauzon (m. 103) greeted the guests, assisted by Mr. Francois Legault’s (m. 060) two daughters, Diane (m. 336) and Françoise (m. 337). They distributed information folders to all attending.

Mr. Luc Legault (m. 176), our genealogy expert and our web-site manager, was there to answer any questions that the attendees may have had on these subjects.

2004_2During our “gourmet” brunch, there were opportunities to make acquaintances and socialize with our extended family members. Special introductions were made of our newest western Canadian members (Mr. and Mrs. Leo and Jeanne Levasseur (m. 414), Mr. Albert (Bert) Legault (m. 385) and his wife Paulette Pittet. In addition, we were treated to a welcoming speech from the

The Vaudreuil-Soulanges Regional Museum’s director, Mr. Bissonnette (his mother is Laurette Legault) shared with us his extensive knowledge about the area’s history, where many of our ancestors lived.

A rallying song “Sur la route de l’ancêtre” to the tune of the popular French song “Sur la Route de Berthier” was sung by all. The lyrics and music were distributed to the audience and the words were composed by Mr. Gilbert Paradis of St-Jean-de-Matha, Mrs. Raymonde Legault’s (m. 037) husband.

2004_4The General Annual Meeting was then opened and informative summary reports were read by each of the committee heads. A number of propositions were raised and voted on by the assembly. The meeting then proceeded to the election of our new administrative counsellors. (Please see the list of our new Board members on page 2 of this newsletter).

Gratitude was expressed to those who donated their time and effort to the Association and we welcomed our newest members.

An honour plaque was presented to our past treasurer Mrs. Claudette-Gisele Legault-Maither (m. 170) for her dedication and contributions. Regretfully, she had to leave us for personal reasons.

Mrs. Raymonde Legault (m. 037) and her husband Mr. Gilbert Paradis invited us to their beautiful part of the country for our next fall 2005 Gathering in Lanaudiere.

This ADNLD Gathering wrapped up with friendly interactions, photos and heartfelt goodbyes.
